Jack Pontes, the founder of J. Pontes Corp. was born in the city of Leiria, Portugal; where at the age of seventeen opened his own restoration business. In 1986, in search of new challenges, Jack Pontes immigrated to the United States. Just a few years after arriving, he began his restoration business in New York City to help preserve what he felt was most characteristic of the city, it’s beautiful historic buildings. He dedicated himself to an excellent quality of craftsmanship and began to grow his business. By 1998, Jack Pontes became an American citizen, and had already established a reputation for his business of the highest quality in restoration.
J. Pontes Corp. has restored multiple buildings in New York City. Many of the buildings are considered of architectural significance and of historic value, and are protected by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission. In 1998, J. Pontes Corp. was recognized by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission. On that occasion, it was a project performed by the experienced team of J. Pontes Corp. that earned the company this prestigious award.
In 1999, J. Pontes Corp. was recognized for their work on the 16th annual encounter of “Friends of the Upper East Side Historic Districts,” a commission for preserving historic buildings. This commission presented Jack Pontes with an award for his contribution in the preservation and the restoration of historic building in New York City.
